Kannonji attractions

Kannonji Zen Retreat is a Buddhist sangha in the virtual world of Second Life®, a side project of the Sweeping Zen website (the leading online encyclopedia of Zen Buddhism in the West).

We started the project in 2008 as a small place for tech-savvy individuals to gather together and meditate. Located in a virtual region inspired by fond childhood memories of places like the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Tennessee, our region offers visitors realistic “natural” surroundings and conveys a sense of warmth and intimacy upon one’s first visit.

Kannonji Zen Retreat offers daily meditations in our zendo (photo’s right) with people from all over the planet  @ 7am 1pm and 9pm PDT. In addition there are Meditations on Friday and Saturday at 11pm PDT (see our ‘schedule‘ page). To teleport to Kannonji in Second Life: click here.

The ‘Interfaith Dialog Center’ and the ‘Snow Lion Wisdom Center’ are online libraries of documentaries, films and interviews. This 3D website in Second Life focusses on Buddhism and on other religions.

Another great location in our sim: ‘The open air zendo‘. Dianne Elton - one of our long time meditation leaders – inaugurated this open air zendo at 25 September 2012 with 11 pm sit. We all agreed that this place will be put into more use in the near future. To transport to the Oak Tree Zendo, click here.

Wasenshi Asian Arts is a store which retails a variety of Buddhist goods and Japanese landscaping and decor items. Stop on by and check them out! 25% of all purchases made at this or any other shop help finance Kannonji’s activities in Second Life. Please support our merchants (click here to teleport to the store).
